PASSAT VS. ALTIMA
The Nissan Altima may have your attention but the Volkswagen Passat is sure to steal it away. The Passat scored higher than the Altima on Edmunds.com for the overall review, including the following categories: driving, comfort, interior and utility. An impressive 4.5 out of 5 was given for its comfort. The Nissan scored a pitiful 2.0. An online reviewer raved about the cushy and soft vehicle interior and said it maintained “control over highway bumps” as opposed to feeling “every bump in the road” in an Altima.
With Volkswagen, your safety is non-negotiable. Standard on the Passat S are daytime running lights, which help increase the visibility of your car. The Passat also comes with pre-collision and post-collision safety systems. The Altima 2.5 S only comes with a pre-collision safety system.
There’s also a difference between the engines. For the base models, the Altima has a 2.5-liter engine while the Passat has a 1.8-liter engine. Even though the Passat engine is a bit smaller, it is a TSI engine. This means it has turbocharged power without losing efficiency, which is why it can be designed smaller.
Additionally, Nissan's warranty just cannot compete with The People First Warranty. The six year / 72,000 mile bumper-to-bumper coverage is guaranteed to give you peace of mind. VW's coverage is among the best in the industry - and it's transferable. That means, when it comes time to sell or trade your vehicle, it'll be worth even more. Despite the Altima’s best efforts, the Volkswagen Passat reigns supreme for all your midsize sedan needs.
