ATLAS VS. PALISADE

The all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade is a new 7- or 8-passenger large SUV that competes directly with the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas. Both models are known for spacious 3rd row seating, new technology and upgraded interiors, but one does compare more favorably than the other. Read on to learn where the new 2019 Volkswagen Atlas outshines the 2020 Hyundai Palisade.

When it comes to price, the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas beats the 2020 Hyundai Palisade with a lower starting MSRP. Both base models come with a lot of standard equipment including Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and tons of safety features. While both vehicles come with standard forward collision-avoidance assist and pedestrian detection, the German-engineered Volkswagen also has rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance and blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, standard.

As far as passenger space is concerned, the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas has more headroom and hiproom in every row compared to the 2020 Hyundai Palisade. And the Atlas wins in cargo space as well with 98.6 cu. ft. vs. the Palisade’s 86.4 cu ft. Overall the VW Atlas is a couple of inches longer, a couple inches taller and almost 3” wider than the Palisade and, yet, somehow still has a tighter turning radius. Plus, the Atlas has also been lauded for its ease of access to the comfortable 3rd row.

Both vehicles do well in their segment with an estimated fuel economy of 22 MPG combined. The Atlas edges out the Palisade just a bit in city driving with 20 MPGs vs. 19 MPGs. Reviewers call the Atlas “comfortable and quiet” and praise the cargo capacity and 3rd row space. While it comes with a lot of standard tech, upgrading to the SE or SEL trims provides even more quality audio, navigation and driver aids.

And while Hyundai vehicles are known for their 10-year, 100-thousand mile powertrain warranty, the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas wins again with the bumper-to-bumper coverage. Volkswagen provides 6 years / 72,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper transferable warranty coverage on their 2019 models. Hyundai’s basic warranty is only 5 years/60,000 miles. Why choose a more expensive Hyundai when you can have the quality German-engineered craftsmanship and high-end style of a Volkswagen vehicle? Interior and exterior styling both radiate excellent design and unique VW flair.
