2019 JETTA VS. 2018 SENTRA

Searching for your next sedan can be difficult with so many brands to choose from, like Nissan, Honda and Toyota. But when Volkswagen decided to completely redesign the 2019 Jetta, they made the all-new compact sedan a fierce competitor. Learn what makes the all-new, redesigned 2019 Volkswagen Jetta better than its competitor, the 2018 Nissan Sentra.

A quick side by side comparison will show that the 2018 Nissan Sentra is slightly cheaper than the 2019 VW Jetta but an in-depth look with show you why the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is a better choice. The completely redesigned sedan gets better gas mileage, has a spacious and technologically advanced interior and is backed by a longer warranty.

To begin with, the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta gets better gas mileage with an EPA estimated 30 MPGs in the city and 40 on the highway [1]. The 2018 Nissan Sentra, though priced slightly lower, only gets an EPA estimated 29 MPGs in the city and 37 MPGs highway [2].

The 2018 Nissan Sentra has less interior space than the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. And now, the redesigned Jetta is packed with even more technological features including a 6.5-inch touch-screen, four speakers and connectivity features; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard. The 2018 Sentra has a smaller touch-screen. Spending more money for a higher trim level on the Nissan will only get you a 5.8-inch touch-screen; that’s still significantly smaller than what’s standard on the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not even available on the 2018 Nissan Sentra. Another new and first-time feature for Volkswagen and the 2019 VW Jetta is the BeatsAudio ® premium sound system, featuring a 400-watt bass heavy system, 9 speakers and a subwoofer in the trunk.

And with the introduction of the People First Warranty, Volkswagen has one of the best and longest warranties of its kind. It offers six years or 72,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage [3]. Not just a powertrain warranty. Not just a battery warranty. The new VW warranty is a bumper-to-bumper warranty (and, yes, it does include the powertrain too). It’s longer in years and mileage than any of its competitors, including the 2018 Nissan Sentra.
