2019 JETTA VS. 2018 ELANTRA

Searching for your next sedan can be difficult with so many top brands to choose from, like Hyundai, Honda and Toyota. But when Volkswagen decided to completely redesign the 2019 Jetta, they made the all-new compact sedan a fierce competitor. Learn what makes the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta better than its competitor, the 2018 Hyundai Elantra.

Both the 2018 Hyundai Elantra and 2019 Volkswagen Jetta have a starting MSRP under $20,000 with the Elantra being slightly cheaper. However, a lower starting price means many interior, safety and technological features are off the table for the 2018 Hyundai Elantra. For example, post collision braking which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and future injuries[1] is not available on the 2018 Hyundai Elantra but comes standard on the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta also gets an EPA estimated 30 MPGs in the city and 40 MPGs in the highway. The 2018 Hyundai Elantra gets only an EPA estimated 26 MPGs in the city and 36 on the highway.

There are also more safety features (both standard and available) on the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta - like the standard post collision braking which automatically applies the brakes in the event of crash[2]. This helps to block subsequent collisions and prevent further injuries. This feature is not offered on the 2018 Honda Civic. Driver assistance features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist are all available on the redesigned 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.

And with the introduction of the People First Warranty, Volkswagen has one of the best and longest warranties of its kind. It offers six years or 72,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage[2]. Not just a powertrain warranty. Not just a battery warranty. The new VW warranty is a bumper-to-bumper warranty (and, yes, it does include the powertrain too). It’s longer in years and mileage than any of its competitors, including the Elantra.
